The Indian Premier League (IPL) faced a one-week suspension starting May 9 due to escalating tensions between India and Pakistan. Following the return of numerous foreign players to their home countries, there are indications that the IPL could resume soon, possibly around May 16 or 17. However, some foreign players might opt not to return for the remaining matches. If this occurs, it could significantly impact various teams, as they would be missing key contributors who have been vital to their performance this season.
Players Likely to Miss IPL 2025
Mitchell Starc: The Australian bowler, who has taken 14 wickets in 11 innings for Delhi Capitals, is unlikely to return due to concerns over fatigue and recurring injuries. Starc left India on May 11, and if his team fails to qualify for the playoffs, he may not be able to return in time. His focus is likely to shift towards national commitments, prioritizing his readiness for international matches.
Josh Hazlewood: The Australian pacer, who has been a standout for RCB with 18 wickets in 10 matches at an impressive average of 17.27, may also miss IPL 2025. Hazlewood has been dealing with a light injury and other health issues, which prevented him from playing against RR. With the World Test Championship final approaching, he might prioritize his national duties over the IPL.
Jos Buttler: Despite an impressive performance for GT, scoring 500 runs in 11 innings with a strike rate of 163.93, Buttler's return for IPL 2025 is uncertain. He departed India early due to rising tensions and may not feel ready to return soon, especially with family commitments and an upcoming ODI series against the West Indies. This could lead him to prioritize his national responsibilities over IPL participation.
